PRANAYAMA GUIDE

To start with I would like to state the usefulness of Pranayama or Breathing Exercise. It helps you to clean your blood and admits that each and every organ, and gland functions correctly.

Do you know that tortoise has only 5 respiration per minute. And a tortoise can live upto 400 years.
A basic human being has 15 respirations per minute. So, if you practise yoga then your respiration rate can be reduced to 8. And with meditation and pranayama, your respiration rate can be further reduced to 4. That means, a human can also live upto 400 years.

Let's begin with the type of pranayama we shall discuss:

1.Bhastrika Pranayama
2.Anuloma-Viloma Pranayama
3.Kapalbhati Pranayama
4.Murchha Pranayama

BHASTRIKA PRANAYAMA :

1. Sit in a comfortable Yogic Position.

2. Breathe in through both your nostrils forcefully, till it fills up your lungs and the diaphragm is fully touched.

3.  Breathe out forcefully. See to it that the abdominal cavity is not swelled.

Person suffering from high blood pressure or from any heart disease are not advised to do this pranayama. While doing this pranayam, constantly, repeat the mantra, “AUM” in your mind. Also think that you are taking in all the energy of this universe.

ANULOMA-VILOMA PRANAYAMA:

1. At first close the right nostril with the right hand thumb.

2. Inhale in slowly through the left nostril till you lungs are completely filled.

3. Then close the left nostril with your middle and 3rd finger.

4. Then open the right nostril and exhale out completely. Repeat this exercise upto 5-10 minutes. But, in summer season, don't practise it more than 5 minutes at a stress.

While doing this pranayam, constantly, repeat the mantra, “AUM” in your mind. Also think that you are taking in all the energy of this universe. If you feel tired in between, take some rest and then again start it.

KAPALABHATI PRANAYAMA:

Note: While Practising this pranayam, think that you are taking in all energy from the universe and throwing away all negative energies.

Kapalbhati is a bit similar to Bhastrika Pranayama. In Bhastrika Pranayam, equal force is given to inhale and exhale. But in Kapalbhati, more force is given while 'Exhaling'. You should force the exhale process. Inhale process shall be normal. You needn't try to inhale. It will become automatically. Remember, You just need to exhale. And while exhaling remember to contract the abdominal area.

You should practise this pranayam for around 5-10 minutes. This pranayam prepares your mind for meditation.

I request you to watch a Video in Youtube for this pranayam. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=63WqhYA4Xrg

MURCHHA PRANAYAMA:

1. Close your eyes at first.

2. Breath in through both your nostrils.

3. Raise your head and then tilt it backwards so that the eyes are facing the sky.

4. Hold your breath. Keep looking at the sky. Hold on for as long as you can.

5.  Close your eyes and come to your original position and breath out slowly.

Repeat this exercise atleast 5 times daily.

There are seven kinds of Pranayam exercises but these four pranayam exercise shall be enough for now. Do practise it daily for 1-4 hours. Take rest in between. Don't do it at a stress. It is important.

Wish you all good luck for a healthy spirit and a healthy life in future. Pray to God. He is always there with you.
